Mickela is a calm, compassionate, and friendly psychologist with a passion for. helping people navigate the stressors of life. She values strong collaborative relationships, creating a safe space for clients to develop practical skills to improve wellbeing and create meaningful change.

  • Mickela has a passion for helping neurodivergent individuals to thrive in life.

    She helps them with understanding themselves and make meaning of their life experiences and identity following diagnosis

    Mickela helps clients to navigate daily life, from managing executive function difficulties, work demands, masking-related stress, burnout, and emotion regulation.

    She also supports coping with change and adjustment - adjusting to life transitions including work life, parenthood, beginning or ending relationships, and loss.

    Additionally, Mickela empowers parents to better understand their neurodivergent child and nurture their emotional development.

  • The parent-child relationship is a special one, and Mickela helps to enhance the connection as well as improve parental confidence.

    She helps parents (including parents of neurodivergent children and parents who are neurodivergent themselves) understand their child’s needs, to strengthen co-regulation and the parent-child bond, and develop practical, behavioural, and emotional strategies.

  • Mickela supports students (18+ years) with the challenges of student life, including:

    • Exam anxiety

    • Study skills

    • Time management

    • Procrastination

    • Adjustment to change (from high school to university, and from study to work).

    She supports students practically, and also helps them to enhance their mental health (e.g. depression, anxiety, anger, low self-esteem).

  • Mickela helps families and partners of FIFO workers navigate the stressors of a FIFO lifestyle:

    • Long-distance relationships

    • Shifting routines + schedules

    • Isolation

    • Burnout associated with managing home life during swings

  • Mickela has a special interest in helping women with endo to manage stress around investigations, pain, adjustment to diagnosis, fatigue, and the impact on work and relationships.

    She also helps those in the perinatal period to prepare for parenthood, address anxiety and depression, support bonding and attachment, and navigate identity changes.

  • Mickela has a special interest in supporting those with generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety, emotion-regulation difficulties, low self-esteem, and general psychological distress.

    She helps to build insight, develop practical coping skills (including emotion regulation) and create meaningful change in daily life.

Mickela completed her Bachelor of Psychology with Honours at the Curtin University, and her Master of Professional Psychology at Monash University. She has experience working in disability, educational, research, and government health sectors.

Mickela is a friendly and personable clinician, who strongly believes in person-centred care and in encouraging clients to explore how their wider context impacts their wellbeing. She uses a wide range of evidence-based interventions, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Skills training.

Mickela runs her own independent practice and engages The Skill Collective to provide administrative and other business services to support her provision of assessment and treatment to clients.
