Michelle’s kind nature is a real strength of her work in helping individuals improve their quality of life. She works collaboratively with clients to gain a better understanding of their challenges, and to feel empowered to take steps to improve their wellbeing, mental health, and performance.
Michelle works with adolescents (aged 14+) and adults.
Michelle enjoys supporting individuals to lead meaningful lives whilst maintaining positive wellbeing. She has a special interest in helping others with:
1. Finding direction in life and reduce overwhelm. Uncertainty and a lack of direction can often lead to overwhelm and difficulties with intense emotions. Michelle works particularly well with these individuals to help them find clarity to move forward whilst learning to manage these overwhelming emotions. She helps them to understand the causes of their current circumstances, their values, and helps them move towards a more meaningful life.
2. Stress, burnout, and work/life balance. Achieving balance in life can be challenging. Michelle can help you understand the mindset and behaviours that keep you locked into a cycle of overwhelm and burnout, and work with you to develop practical and sustainable strategies to reset.
3. Low self-esteem and body image. With low self-esteem having such an impact on identity, happiness, and loneliness, life can feel challenging and confronting if your self-worth is low. Michelle works with individuals to identify and better understand the reasons underlying their low self-esteem and/or body image concerns, and to work towards developing a healthier sense of self.
4. Students (incl. university, registrars, TAFE, and upper high school students) helping with anxiety, exam preparation, and adjustment. Michelle helps students manage common challenges when attending university or high school, supporting them throughout the year with underlying mental health issues to work towards preparing for important exams and assessments. She has previously worked as a school psychologist. Student issues Michelle helps with include perfectionism, procrastination, social anxiety (incl. public speaking), study skills, and managing exam anxiety.
5. Healthy lifestyle + healthy mindset. Michelle believes in the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and healthy mindset for better wellbeing and mental health. She enjoys helping individuals build skills to boost resilience, so that they can attain an enhanced quality of life.
Michelle utilises various evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance ad Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, Solution-focused Therapy, and Positive Psychology to help individuals move forward in life.
Michelle completed her Bachelor of Psychology at Murdoch University (with a minor in Organisational Psychology and Developmental Psychology) and her Graduate Diploma of Education at the University of Western Australia. She worked as a school psychologist in the WA Department of Education, helping to promote school and student wellbeing. This has informed a passion for working with those unique challenges and stressors that face students of all ages.
